About Author

Patrick S. Walters

Mr. Walters was raised in Shrewsbury, PA, attending Susquehannock High School in Glen Rock, PA, and graduating there with the Class of 1999. He started attending Penn State University – York Campus in 1999 part-time while holding a full-time job as well. From September 2000 to August 2002 he took a leave of absence in order to serve a proselytizing mission for his church in San Jose, CA, for two years, and returned home with honors. In September 2002, Mr. Walters began his first major research project through Penn State University under the direction of Dr. M. Abul Hasan, entitled “f2(1270) Mass and Width from E760 Neutral Data”. This culminated in a March 2003 presentation at the NCUR 2003 conference in Salt Lake City, UT, and subsequent publication in September in the “Proceedings”. Since that time, Mr. Walters has attended both Penn State York and Penn State University – Main Campus, two years at each. In October 2005, Mr. Walters left Penn State due to health issues. He looks forward to returning to college at a future date to finish his Bachelor’s degree in either Physics or Science. Mr. Walters hopes to continue into graduate studies in the future in order to obtain his Ph.D., as well as his certification to teach physics. Ultimately, he would like to become a full-time researcher, theorist, and experimentalist.

Partly as a result of a very successful presentation at the CPS-AAPT Spring Meeting 2007, Mr. Walters was invited to participate as a researcher in a cosmic-ray experiment, with Dr. Abaz Kryemadhi from Messiah College, which is now a section of the MARIACHI Collaboration. Furthermore, at the invitation of the Board of Directors of the Columbia Public Library, he also began serving as the Director of the Columbia Public Library in October 2007.  Putting the library and the MARIACHI-CPS Collaboration together, Mr. Walters helped to establish an outreach program benefiting students at the Columbia High School, in which students helped to carry out the MARIACHI-CPS experiment for a short while.  With his work as a librarian at an end in July of 2008, Mr. Walters has left library work in the hands of others who are more capable.

Mr. Walters would like to thank Dr. M. Abul Hasan for his ongoing support and encouragement, as well as for the past opportunities that have led to growth and learning, and also Dr. Abaz Kryemadhi for the wonderful opportunities and experiences in research. He would also like to thank Mr. Kenneth Alwine, his high school physics teacher, for inspiring him to explore into the depths of physics realities and reach for success. It is Mr. Walters’ belief that teachers and professors are true heroes in every sense, and deserve great respect and continual thanks for their efforts and service to society.

On a more personal note…

Mr. Walters has many interests outside of his physics research. He is an avid collector of 1:600 scale model jetliners, civil aviation books, and WWII naval history books. He enjoys reading, drawing, studying cellular phones, watching movies, mountain biking, model rocketry, aviation, and acrylic painting in his spare time. His favorite big-screen movies from recent years include such titles as “The Bourne Identity”, “The Bourne Supremacy”, “The Bourne Ultimatum”, “The Pink Panther”, “The Lord of the Rings” series, and “The Chronicles of Narnia” series. He also feels a great sense of accomplishment in working on his 2000 Liahona Mission Edition mountain bike which is in prime condition. Mr. Walters also aspires to travel much of the world in the coming years. He loves his family dearly, and thanks his parents for all of their nurturing care during his childhood, as well as their continuing love, advice, and support for his endeavors.

Mr. Walters currently resides in Shrewsbury, PA. He is a member of the American Association of Physics Teachers – Central Pennsylvania Section(AAPT-CPS), a member of York County Radio Emergency Associated Communication Teams (REACT), former Vice-chair of the Directors’ Council of the Library System of Lancaster County, and a life-time member of the Cambridge Who’s Who professional network. He is an avid church-goer as well, regularly attending the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in York, PA.
