Well, as my health situation has been declining and such, and as I was unable to return to PSU in the spring semester, I am going to leave my blog alone for a while. There really aren’t any new projects to discuss, and I really don’t have any new insights that are worth sharing yet. As such, I would like to thank everyone who reads my posts and/or ideas here, and I appreciate the support of everyone. I will be continuing to try to return to college, and I will be working to restore my health as soon as possible. In time, it is certainly possible that I will return to post more ideas here, but until then, have a fantastic day, and thanks for visiting!

Well, on Wednesday I lost my job at the warehouse. I had to resign due to some personal misfortunes, but in this case it is serendipitous… I am on track to go back to PSU York in the Spring Semester, so I will only be waiting a month and a half before I am busy with better work to do. As they say, when one door closes, another one opens!

At this point I think it is best for my personal situation to stay at the York Campus and complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Science specializing in Physics. My old mentor, Dr. Hasan, will be visiting with me soon about this, and I look forward to hearing his thoughts on the subject. So, if all goes well, I will be back at college in January!

I just met with the doctor this morning, and after all the tests, medications, office visits, and everything else, I have finally been given a clean bill of health. I am now clear to return to work! It has been nearly five months since the beginning of this whole problem, and now it seems to finally be over. This afternoon I am going to work and earn some $$$.

I talked to Dr. Kryemadhi last week, as well, and he has invited me to come up and visit with him some time. I’m sure we’ll have plenty to talk about, probably not with regards to physics, but just as good friends. Hopefully I’ll be able to squeeze that in along with my work schedule.

I am hoping to return to Penn State York this fall if I can. I think it would be a great idea to finish some more schooling while I am making money. Hopefully I will be able to fit that into my busy schedule, too. Well, that’s all for now. I will post again when there is more to talk about.

I just got word this past week that my divorce is finalized. What a relief! I hope to never, ever go through that ever again.

As for my work with Dr. Kryemadhi, I believe we have come to another impasse. It would appear that the cell phone equipment and GPS package cannot withstand temperatures below -10 degrees Celcius. That would preclude us from being able to make a tracked balloon launch to any useful altitude. The equipment would also cost at least $200 to $300, once again making it difficult to justify. I haven’t completely given up, but we’ll have to find yet another alternative. It hasn’t been the best week for our physics experiment.

Two days ago, I was told by a neurologist that I might have epilepsy and/or nerve damage. That news has been on my mind for the last two days, making me wonder if I will be able to keep my job. There are a lot of tests that I must now go through, some of them completely unpleasant. Yesterday I went to the hospital for the first of these tests, and the neurologist jabbed me with needle probes and ran small electric shocks through them; it was terribly unsettling and occasionally painful. Early yesterday morning my grandmother also passed away, so it has been a particularly difficult time for me. I have heard it said that no one is truly prepared for times like these, and we must either “sink or swim” when the going gets rough like this. I wil end up dealing with this either way, and I just hope I can weather it all. I can now honestly say that I have lost almost everything I had; my educational opportunities, my wife, my home, my car, my financial freedom, many possessions, my health, a close family member, and possibly my job if it turns out that I do have epilepsy. I have had people tell me before that they think of me as being a little like Job, but I never felt much like that could be true until now. I am dealing with health issues, a divorce, a bankruptcy, a death in the family, disability and possible loss of employment all at the same time. I am under so much stress I could never have imagined it before now. Only time will tell if I pull through it alright or not.

So, I was out of work due to illness for a week, and I have since gone back to work… until today, when I got ill again. So, I got sent home early… again. I have been having low blood pressure, fast heart rate, dizziness, exhaustion and fatigue, and also aching, tingling, and numbness in my legs and arms. During my week off I went through alot of tests on my blood and my heart. So this morning I got the verdict: I had one abnormal EKG of the two taken, protein in my blood, very high triglycerides, high total cholesterol (LDL’s and HDL’s), and also a low score for HDL’s (which is the good cholesterol). All this is very very bad, and I was told I am in grave danger of having a heart attack or stroke. What??!! I’m only 28 years old! How does this happen to someone my age who is not seriously overweight? Well, it seems that genetics plays a factor as well, and we apparently have issues with this on both my father’s and mother’s sides of the family. Still, this is a big nasty surprise for me.

I am hoping that prescription medication, diet, and more excercise will keep me from having further problems. Until they start working, though, I have to find out how to get well enough to work in the meantime.

I found this one at a couple of different places on the internet, and I just love it for obvious reasons.

As for other things, I am bored out of my mind because the doctor is keeping me out of work for a week. I had some health problems that need to be tested, so I am out until next Tuesday. I did get to meet with Dr. Kryemadhi last Thursday, and we are seriously considering a project to develop a balloon platform for outreach experiments. We have to test whether the use of a GPS-enabled cell phone will be plausible, and we have enlisted help from Nokia’s technical department for that. Otherwise, I am just struggling to develop a CKM matrix from my Modified Rishon Model which I developed from Rishon Theory; so far, I have been able to reproduce V_ud pretty well, but the others are a bit more complex. So, that’s this week in a nutshell.

Today I called Dr. Kryemadhi, as I was in the area, and we had lunch together. We talked about how things have been going; I told him about the trials I have been going through as well as the latest good news, and he told me about some of his latest exploits. He mentioned that he was working with someone on an idea to use balloons to take measurements at high altitudes. I didn’t ask, but I think it is a cosmic-ray study of some sort. Once again, talk about using cell phones to transmit data wirelessly came up, and Dr. Kryemadhi has asked for my help. I think there is a way to do what he was describing, and I think it can be done with a Python extension on an S60 smartphone.

Perhaps this is another chance for me to work in physics again. Have I got it in me to pull off one more attempt at physics research? I sure hope so, and I’m going to find out. I will be meeting with Dr. Kryemadhi some time in the next week or two to discuss the details. I will also be looking for an S60 Python SDK, probably through Nokia. I am quite excited to try my hand at physics research yet again, and hopefully I will be successful this time around. Perhaps there is hope for me after all…

On Saturday, I took and passed my amateur technician exam. Today, the FCC posted my license for operating an amateur radio, otherwise known as HAM radio. My new callsign is KB3THA. This is rather exciting for me, and the good news has me in high spirits despite all of the other troubles that have beset me lately. I am looking forward to getting on the air and having some conversations, as well as taking the amateur general exam in October.

Work is also going well. I have been officially clear of my probation period for a week or two now, so I am now permanent there. I have been doing better with my productivity, and I have had the opportunity to do a couple of special assignments. It may be a long drive to work, but it is well worth it.

My old car (now Mom and Dad’s new used car…) is working great since getting the new distributor and all else. It makes it to work and back without any difficulties despite the nearly 270,000 miles it has already accumulated. I am also looking forward to having some 2-meter radio gear on board for when I am on the road. I should be able to hit the local repeaters most of the way up to work. I can think of it as a new physics experiment of sorts, though I am sure someone has already studied the radio range characteristics of various radio antennas, power settings, geographies, and meteorologies. Still, it is an interesting thought…
